In September 2020, Alexander Shunnarah also known as the Billboard King of the South hosted the first ever Alexander Shunnarah Billboard Contest. Being a fan of his marketing strategy and his bold designs, I decided to take a stab at the competition.
My design was centered around a quote Shunnarah had given on an Instagram post that inspired me. We had just been hit by Hurricane Sandy and everyone in the community was feeling devastated. I knew his words, "Never Give Up," would give the community hope. With my internet going in and out after the storm, I had one chance to send in my design and to my surprise, I won first place.
On New Year's Eve 2020, I was driving through Montgomery, AL, and just happened to see my design proudly displayed on a digital billboard just off the highway. I immediately doubled back to take a closer look and my fiance took the picture of me featured below. This is easily my favorite project and proudest moment in my graphic design career.
